job hunting tips
Envysybol asked:

Okay, I’m a 20 yr old, African-American online college student, no kids, and no luck. I’m going to school for creative writing and have figured out that I will need another entry level job that can hold me until my career picks up. I have the worst luck finding good jobs. I always get stuck with the jobs nobody wants. For instance, I’m a waitress at a diner now. My friends work at banks, hotels, and my boyfriend works at one of the best hospitals in the city. My resume’ isn’t all that good considering i haven’t stayed at a job for more than 4 months and thats because the jobs i get are terrible and the pay isn’t worth the stress. I want out of these food service and petty jobs. Could anybody help me out or give me some job hunting tips. Maybe there is a website besides Monster.com that could help me.

Ive been fighting the same 50 pounds for 5 years. I feel sluggish tired and cranky alot, and overwhelmed by all that needs to be done. But sitting on the couch will do nothing, nor will feeling resentful of my husband for not helping. Today, Im going to spend a solid hour just tossing junk from my apartment. Cleaning and straightening. I will also take my daughter out for fresh air, for a walk and to the park. I am going to drink more water, because Ive read dehydration is one of the leading causes of fatigue. Each day Im going to try to post something Ive done to get out of the rut Im in. My goal is to have a home so clean, its not hard to keep up, and a fitness routine that has me exercising at least 1 hour a day to get fit. So whether its walking for five minutes, or drinking an extra bottle of water, what have you done to improve your life and health today?

My Trick of Getting a Better Job

getting a better job
melvin polatnick asked:

One of the worst experiences for a guy, is to be out of a job. Men since the beginning of time has always been providers but without a job a guy can’t even provide for himself. If you are out of work and are tired of searching for a job there is hope for you. Apply for a job at a messenger service—they are always hiring. The pay is not great, they usually start you off as an independent contractor. Which means that they don’t have to pay you minimum wages. You get paid by the distance you travel to deliver the message. Most messages are within walking distance, they take about an hour to deliver and return to the office. That delivery pays only three bucks. Some times you have to take a train or bus and wont get back for two hours. That job pays seven bucks. It’s not a lot of money for the work you do, but it is better than sitting home and brooding.

You can turn that bad job into an opportunity to find a good one. But you have to do more than just drop off the messages at the hundreds of working places that you go to. You must be friendly to the receptionist or boss that is receiving the message. They will see you quite often. Let them get to know you. Don’t be surprised if they offer you a better job.

A guy out of work sends out hundreds of resumes and very few of them get answered. When they are, you will only get a quick interview, there is little time to get to know you personally. But as a person that works for a messenger service they see you many times. After awhile they might get to like you and understand that you are being underpaid. Then you will be given a full interview and get a good chance of being given a new job. If you are hired, you then can go back to the messenger service and thank the people that you formerly worked with, for giving you the opportunity to get a real job.

My information is accurate because I found a good job by starting out working for a messenger service. But I made sure that I spoke with all the people that I handed the message. Some didn’t have the time for conversation but they were all polite. With time and patience somebody in there will like and help you.

Improve Self Esteem to Improve Your Quality of Life

improving your life
Jon Mercer asked:

You may realize that your self confidence is not as good as it could be, but do you know how to improve your self esteem and overcome doubts, fears and limitations in your life? When you realize it’s time to start working on your self confidence, don’t waste any time trying to figure out why you ended up with poor self esteem in the first place. Whether you know the reason or not, I urge you to not spend a minute thinking about it. It’s like the chicken and the egg thing; which came first? Who cares; it doesn’t matter!

Self confidence and self esteem is basically the same thing and it’s all about how you feel about yourself. When you learn how to improve self esteem, you improve how you feel about yourself. Interestingly, improving your self esteem will also improve how other people feel about you and how you perform.

Linked to the feeling of self esteem is also the feeling of self worth and the ability to believe in your own abilities. The better you feel about yourself, the more you’ll see what you are capable of. Studies show that a strong self confidence can be linked to financial success and success in relationships. It is only common sense; for one, if you don’t believe in yourself why should other people believe in you. Secondly, if you are in a relationship and you don’t like or love yourself very much, you are making it much harder for the other person to love you.

When you learn how to improve self esteem, you also become more likely to take some chances and try something new because you are no longer certain you will fail. Taking some chances can get you great results in business and it makes you stand out as someone who is innovative and has courage.

Taking some chances in your personal life takes you a little bit outside your comfort zone and introduces you to new and exiting things and people.

Making the choice to improve self esteem is making the choice to improve life. Confident people are not afraid to go after what they want and create the life of their dreams. If you have lived a life in the shadow of your low self esteem you may not even know what it is you want because you never dared to dream of what you could not have.

With increased self confidence you have the chance to go out and find your dream. You can find out what is really is you want in life and go after it. Even more importantly; you can discover who you really are.

To improve self esteem is not to never ever feel insecure again. Everybody feels insecure in certain situations, but the difference is that the confident person never looses the feeling of self worth and love he has for himself, even when he’s feeling some insecurity.

I you are suffering from poor self confidence, the best thing you can do for yourself and the people around you is to start working on it. To learn how to improve self esteem is the first step in claiming your happiness, and it really can make your life a much better one.

job hunting tips
Kris Koonar asked:

Make a list of all the people you know; they could be your relatives or friends or lecturers or classmates or colleagues you had at summer jobs, and a few others. Make an additional effort to get together and make use of the resultant discussions to seek their opinion, to let them know about your job hunt, to find out more regarding their professions or the organizations they work for and to dig up the names of other people who may be helpful in your job hunt.

The objective of your resume

Ensure that your resume is aimed towards the employers and companies who obtain it. Make certain that your resume is simple to understand and the most significant information is prominent. Create more than one resume in case you wish to apply to more than a single industry.

Be geared at all times

You must carry along with you a photocopy of your resume all the time. In addition it is an excellent idea to have fresh copies of your resume all set in case you are summoned to give an interview at the eleventh-hour.

Construct a list of contacts

Pen down details on each and every one of the employers that you get in touch with, the date on which you sent your resume, people you got in touch with, people you speak to, and remarks regarding associates. Keep a notebook along with you all the time and make a written record the minute you come across a chance or while you head off from an interview session. Make it a point to review your list on a daily basis.

Create a list of activities you have to do on a daily basis

By creating a list of activities you have to do on a daily basis it would facilitate you to sort out your priorities and maintain focus on discovering that ideal job.

Make an effort with the friend method

Join forces with a friend who is job hunting as well. Make an arrangement to interact every week and give an account of all the achievements, greatest performances, as well as upcoming strategies.

Find out the way in which you speak regarding yourself

All the way through your job hunt, you would have to converse with a lot of people at various stages. You should be at ease while discussing about yourself in the company of other people.

Prepare a speech, in the elevator

There is no way of knowing the people you might meet in an elevator, in a queue at the coffee shop, or somewhere on the street. You must be aware of the kind of capabilities you have and the way in which you put them across. You must be able to inform potential employers as well as the others regarding your skills and expertise. In addition, you must know how to connect your expertise and the business that you are interested in.

Uncover everything you can with regards to the employers in your area of interest

Keep yourself up to dated regarding any matter or progress made in your specialized area, go through trade magazines or professional tabloids, and go through the newspapers. During your interview session, your interviewers would be impressed if you would have information about the most recent amalgamation or takeover within the industry.

Network to a Better Job

Kenneth Anczerewicz asked:

When looking for the right job, you’ll probably think about job boards and posted vacancies, or perhaps newspaper classified ads. But are you aware that many career positions are filled through personal contacts - otherwise known as a network?

Simply put, a network is a large group of contacts in your chosen field(s) of interest. Your network may consist of current of former or current acquaintances, colleagues, or employers with skills in certain areas of interest to you. They might be high school teachers who have friends in high places, or a family friend who works at a company that you’d like to land a job at. There is virtually no limit to who can be a potentially useful contact.

Keep your options open and make friends, not enemies, wherever you go. I have heard of people sitting next to useful contacts on the train, or on a busyou never know when a cordial exchange with the stranger next to you may wind up in a trading of business cards.

Keep in mind that an “in” at a company is one way of moving past your competition and gaining an advantage over them. If one of your personal contacts is at a low level within an organization, he or she may not have much influence over helping you to secure a job. Still, he will be able to pass your resume on to someone at a higher level who may have more authority and the power to offer you a position.

In order to make a network work for you, you have got to be persistent. Success in the job market is all about timing, and it may not be the case that a contact will have a job for you the moment you inquire about one. But you should make a point to stay in contactmake a phone call or send an email every few weeks to check in. In this way, if a job arises you will be strongly in the employer’s mind.

Of course, you should be judicious in terms of deciding which contacts to follow up with and which contacts are not likely to lead anywhere. If you’ve put in multiple phone calls or send several emails to someone who you thought might be able to help you, but they haven’t responded, it may not be worth your while to continue pursuing them. In this situation it’s better to focus your time on more responsive contacts who reply to your correspondence and inquiries.

The key to great networking is to build relationships over time. Don’t give your contacts the impression that all you’re out to do is secure a job. Instead, make them feel as though building a friendship is your primary interest-which, of course, is what you should be doing. If the contacts feel a connection with you, that will make them all the more likely to help you in your job search.

Rockville, MD (July 4, 2005) - Two-thirds of Americans indicated in a recent national survey that they believe the government has financial programs they would be eligible for but don’t know enough about them to apply - primarily because the government is not doing a sufficient enough job of letting Americans know. The survey was conducted by the University of Connecticut, Center for Survey Research and Analysis. These recent survey results reveal that many Americans think the government is doing a poor job of letting people know about government financial assistance programs. Of the 1,000 people surveyed, nearly half (48%) earning more than $75,000 annually, believe they are eligible for money they don’t know about. A significant majority of both Democrats (73%) and Republications (60%) believe there is money available they are unaware of. And more people under the age of 44 (72%) than over the age of 60 (56%) believe there is unknown money due to them. “During these tight economic times when families are watching each and every penny they earn and spend, it is crucial for Americans to know what monies are available to them,” says Matthew Lesko, New York Times Best Selling author and consumer advocate who works to educate Americans about free government money. “It is imperative for all Americans to know what they have access to.” Do You Think You Are Eligible For Gov’t Financial Programs But Don’t Know How To Get Them?* ……………………..Yes …………………………………….. 65% ……………………..No ……………………………………… 27% ……………………..Don’t Know …………………………7%

* U of Connecticut Survey

Recent studies by the government itself and other research organizations show that over 50 million consumers don’t know to take advantage of programs that they are legally entitled to including: 4 million senior citizens can receive up to $1,000 from Medicare but they don’t apply because they are unaware of the program (http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d04363.pdf) 6 million families are missing out on free health insurance for their kids (http://www.kff.org/medicaid/loader.cfm?url=/commonspot/security/ getfile.cfm&PageID=28333) 10 million families can get up to $4,000 a year for groceries but don’t apply (http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d04346.pdf) 8 million college students can receive grants and low interest loans but don’t apply (http://www.acenet.edu/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Press_Releases_200 4&TEMPLATE=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&CONTENTID=3245) Single moms can receive some of the $673 million in collected unclaimed child support payments (http://www.gao.gov/highlights/d04377high.pdf) 29 million senior citizens don’t know they can get colonoscopies, bone mass measurement, prostate cancer and glaucoma tests paid for by Medicare (http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d03958.pdf) According to the United States Government budget data for 2005*, the government gives out over $1.5 Trillion a year in money programs to individual taxpayers, and only 12% of this money goes to the poor**. This is an average of over $11,000 for every U.S. taxpayer. And this figure continues to grow every year no matter who is in the White House.
