Job hunting tips during this recession?

Now I have to face the dreaded job search. Since we are in a recession, I would like to know some tips so I can find a job quicker.
I have a mix of teaching experience, customer support, and IT experience.

Don’t make the mistake of using just one general resume. Make one for each of the mixes you stated and one general because it will increase your chances.
Treat your search for a new job as if you where on the job. Devote 8 hours a day to your search. Start using you network of Friends and family to find leads. Hit all the job boards. There are more than just Hot Jobs, Career Builder and Monster.
If you get a chance to interview use the net to find out as much about the company as possible before the interview.
Write a cover letter that is specific to the company your are applying to and do everything possible to find the name of the person you will be reviewing your resume and address the letter to them.
Remember that right now companies have a huge pool of applicants to choose from, so you need to shine above all the rest. Just to give you an example a good Friend is a hiring manager for a mid sized firm that received over 300 resumes for one position paying under $ 40K a year by the second day the job was posted.

Start a direct marketing business to help get you through and buy you some time while you search for a job you love.
Most have small startup costs…and if you choose a company with a good compensation plan, it COULD be the best decision you ever make.
